About the Principal

Dr. Christopher Barrie became the proud principal of Little Britain Elementary School in August 2021. He has been an educator since 2001, serving students from Pre-K to 12th grade. Most recently, he held the position of Assistant Principal of George Fischer Middle School. Prior to this, he served as Assistant Principal, Assistant Coordinator of Special Education, and a teacher in the Wappingers Central School District. During Dr. Barrie’s tenure at George Fischer Middle School, the school received a NYS MTSS grant. Due to his contributions as the building’s RTI coordinator, the Multi-Tier Systems and Supports was transformed to ensure RTI worked effectively. For his Social Emotional work, he received the Putnam County Award for Suicide Prevention.
Part of Dr. Barrie’s career has been dedicated to organizing many professional development opportunities for building and district-wide staff such as Professional Learning Communities, Response To Intervention, de-escalation techniques, safety procedures, using non-verbal cues, and data dives. He has served on several curriculum development and strategic planning committees. Furthermore, he represented the Carmel School District in the Dutchess County School Safety Committee and the Putnam County Preparedness/BT Taskforce. He enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to maximize learning opportunities to ensure that everyone in the community positively grows. He understands that ensuring a quality education is vital to creating leaders in the global society.
Dr. Barrie earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science while pursuing education as a focus from St. Bonaventure University. His Master’s Degree was in Educational Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. SUNY New Paltz is where he received his C.A.S. in School and District Administration. He most recently completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on STEM education from Liberty University. In between the Bachelor’s Degree and pursuing his Doctorate, he amassed 12 credits of Literacy to enhance his abilities to promote literacy K through 12, received his special education certification, and became a trainer for PLTW launch.
Dr. Barrie is honored to begin his fifth year at Little Britain and continues to feel immense pride in being part of such a remarkable school community. Washingtonville is a district grounded in doing what’s best for students, and that focus is deeply valued.
He remains dedicated to serving all students and families at Little Britain, including those of our brave military members. No matter where life takes them after they leave Little Britain, Dr. Barrie hopes every student knows they will always have a place in the Little Britain family and remain a valued member of our Wizard community.
