Students earn stars by reading the most books in their class in September

Anna Dresden and Nashwan Al-awdi, fourth-grade students at Little Britain Elementary School, both won the distinction of a purple star on their Bragging Beads Necklaces for reading the most books on MyOn in a month, in Mr. Todd Grodin’s class.

They both read 15 books in the month of September. Nash received the legendary tie-breaker purple bead because the average of his 15 books' lexile levels was 0.4% higher.

MyOn is a student-centered digital library. These books are automatically matched to students based on their interests, grade and reading level.

Caleb Smith, Anna Dresden, Asiyah Abdul-Jabbar, Ava Socci, and Carson Arduino all earned their bronze stars and blue stars for their necklaces showcasing 50% or more of fourth-grade math facts in their REFLEX fluency in facts 0x - 12x timetables.

Katharineann Strommer, Lucia D'Antuono, Nashwan Al-awdi, Aubrey Loopstra, Riley Albert, Alivia McBride, Emeline Weber, Brittany Bianco, Brandon Levy, Raymond Cash, Lucas Phillips, Jael Cornelio, and Isabella Esposito achieved at least 25% REFLEX fourth-grade math facts 0x-12x tables fluency earning their bronze bead/star awards.

REFLEX is a web-based program that monitors each student's math fluency performance to create an individualized experience for each student.

“The beads are small step bricks laid now that lead, like a trail, to their path of success later,” said Mr. Grodin. “Students are on Xbox and PS5 and know what unlocking achievements are. They do this instinctively in their games. I'm honing their skills while channeling their knowledge outside of school about grit and perseverance in school.”
