Hudson Valley Renegades hit a home run at Little Britain Elementary School

Little Britain Elementary School students welcomed members of the Hudson Valley Renegades last week for an engaging day filled with reading, baseball clinics and plenty of excitement!

Players Jace Avina and Brendan Jones kicked off the visit by reading former baseball star Alex Rodriguez’s book, “Out of the Ballpark,” to first through third graders. Students eagerly asked questions about baseball, learning firsthand about the players’ experiences and dedication to the sport. The assembly ended with a surprise visit from the team’s mascot, Rascal, adding even more excitement as students crowded around for high-fives and autographs.

“Events like today bring learning to life in a fun, meaningful and memorable way,” Christopher Barrie, Little Britain Principal, said. “When students interact with local role models like the Renegades, they’re developing physical and literacy skills, building confidence and learning about teamwork.”

Later, fourth and fifth graders joined Renegades players Roc Riggio, Jackson Castillo, Coby Morales, Kiki Romero and Hueston Morrill in the gym for baseball clinics. Students split into groups, taking turns honing their batting skills with personalized tips from the players, while others formed teams to participate in a pitching competition.

“This has absolutely become a tradition we look forward to each year,” Dr. Barrie added. “The Renegades’ visit directly supports our district’s priorities: enhancing student experience, strengthening community connection and promoting academic excellence.”
