Little Britain fifth grade moving up ceremony marks monumental milestone

Little Britain fifth graders achieved a monumental milestone Monday morning, graduating elementary school! Loved ones gathered in the auditorium of Washingtonville High School to witness this big step in these young Wizards lives. Check out photos from the ceremony here!

The ceremony started off with the presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance from the Washingtonville JROTC before the audience heard from Principal Dr. Christopher Barie, who commended students for their hard work and discipline throughout their time in elementary school.

“Over the last five years, you have all grown in ways that are remarkable to see,” Dr. Barrie said. “Throughout the year, I watched many of you work through challenges that seemed difficult at first. Whether it was tackling a tough assignment, competing on the field, performing on stage, or simply navigating the ups and downs of growing up. I saw perseverance time and time again.”

Opening remarks continued from students Avery Bowe and Lohla Jarrard, addressing the crowd to discuss the memories they made and the lessons they learned during their time at Little Britain. Students thanked their teachers for the valuable life lesson they will take with them beyond the classroom, centered around kindness, friendship and right from wrong.

“Our teachers have helped us understand the difference between right and wrong, how to share, and how to be a good friend. They taught us how to think for ourselves, while remembering to also think of others and of course, they taught us how to be kind and accepting of others.”

The masters of ceremonies, Mikayla Campbell, Finnegan Dunn, Tahlia Johnson and Patrick Sullivan took the podium to discuss clubs students participated in and other accomplishments the Little Britain Class of 2026 achieved during their time at the elementary school.

Assistant Principal Marissa Cavellero and music teacher Benjamin Kohn presented a variety of awards to students, including the Triple “C” Award, Citizenship Award and the Josephine Giacco Award.

Fifth graders Aiden Dilone and Sadie Hesse presented the Class of 2026 gift to the school, thanks to the generosity of the school’s PTO; a new kick ball set and a flag pole light. Fifth grader Kelly Colon read her poem, “Goodbye Elementary School” to the audience before teachers handed out certificates to the graduating class.

The ceremony concluded with students performing “Best Day of my Life” by American Authors before they reunited with their families to continue celebrating their successful accomplishment. See the list of graduates below!
